The 2002 Pontiac Firebird is available in five trims: Pontiac Firebird Coupe and Convertible, Formula Coupe, and Pontiac Trans Am Coupe and Convertible. Safety features include dual airbags, an anti-lock brake system (ABS) and optional traction control. The base trim has a 200-horsepower V6 engine and a 5-speed manual transmission, while the Formula and Trans Am trims have a 310-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 engine with a standard 4-speed automatic transmission. A 6-speed manual is optional at no extra charge on Formula and Trans Am trims.
Standard features on all trims include air conditioning, fog lights, a rear spoiler, 16-inch 5-spoke cast aluminum wheels, power automatic door locks, power remote mirrors, and an AM/FM stereo with CD player. The Formula Pontiac coupe upgrades with low-profile Z-rated tires, performance suspension, and a 500-watt Monsoon series AM/FM stereo with cassette. Leather seating surfaces, a power driver's seat, and a special rear spoiler are standard on the Pontiac Trans Am, as well as removable roof panels on the Trans Am coupe.
The WS6 Performance Package is available on Pontiac Trans Am, which boosts horsepower to 325, upgrades the suspension and exhaust, adds functional hood air scoops with ram air induction, and includes P275/40ZR-17 tires on high-polished cast aluminum wheels.
